Nature Baby Names

Are you a hip chic granola crunch kind of mom looking for a natural name to go with your organic personality? Coming up with earth-themed names is easy. You can create names from flowers, plants, bodies of water, natural elements, or anything that just inspires you.

Admittedly these are all girlish names but when you think of flowers, girls are more what comes to mind than boys. Boys can have natural sounding names as well though. There are a lot of earthy names that work for boys. Here are a few: Forrest, Ash or Asher, River, Ridge, Flint, Aspen, Cedar, Glenn, Talon, Blaze, or Leaf/Leif.

Looking for more of a nautical theme? You could name your baby after an ocean, lake or other body of water. Here are a few water-themed suggestions: Brooke, Lake, Rain or Raine, Crystal, Kai, Rhet, Rhys, Fisher, Sandy, or Marina. If you have lakes or beaches nearby you might have a particular one that inspires you. Why not use it for a name?

Have a future meteorologist on your hands? Nature and weather phenomenon make interesting names too. Here's a few you might like: Cloud, Sky or Skye, Autumn, Dawn, Sunny, Windy, Star or Starry. If you track hurricanes, check out the list of hurricanes and tropical storms listed on the National Weather Service website.

If you really want to be inspired take a walk on a nature trail, at the local zoo or botanical garden and write down every name that you find interesting. There are a lot of earthly inspirations out there and they may not all come to you from a baby name book or website.
